It all started when…

In the wake of two previous C-130 projects, an approach was made by 206(R) Squadron based at QinetiQ’s Boscombe Down facility in Wiltshire. A lesser-known squadron in 2019, the unit had previously been a Nimrod MR.2 operator in Scotland but was by then responsible for heavy aircraft testing and development and primarily focused on future capabilities for the Hercules. For that reason it naturally elected to apply 100th anniversary markings to its C-130 airframe, which had to be done quickly again as it was busy undertaking brake trials ahead of releasing new technologies into the frontline fleet.

This project was completed within the Ministry of Defence and not under Dynamic Vectors. It serves only as an illustration of what some of our designers can do.

After a phone call ‘out of the blue’ work began on another livery. It’s great sharing ideas with similarly motivated people so once again the designer elected to work with the talented Adam Johnson of Evolution Media Design, who had previously come on-board during the 28 Squadron Chinook project. It was great to get a finished livery onto ZH866.

Sincere thanks to Mr Ian Harding, for capturing some wonderful images of the aircraft, with some of the most dramatic coming from Salisbury Plain several months later as it conducted ceramic brake tests on grass strips. How amazing - to see 206 Squadron celebrating a long and distinguished history at the same time as working towards future RAF capability which would be put to good use on operations.
