AAC AH-64E APACHE GUARDIAN
AAC AH-64E APACHE GUARDIAN
Time for something truly unique. What an extraordinary project this was to be involved in - the first ever patch for the AH-64E Apache Guardian in UK service!
This design was commissioned by AAC Middle Wallop, as a memento to be handed to each student who passes through the Apache Guardian conversion course. The ask was significant…something which reflected the lineage of the ‘Apache’ name, with a British lean; alongside recognition of the Attack Helicopter role. Working closely with 7 Regiment, we settled on a very intricate depiction of the Apache headdress, in the colours of the British roundel stop a skull. The Integrated Helmet And Display Sighting System, known as IHADSS, was incorporated in the final stages, to recognise the technology available to each Apache pilot in targeting.
The AH-64E is depicted firing the new AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM), which has been developed to improve capability over and above the better-known AGM-144 Hellfire. We elected to show the recognisable Longbow radar atop the rotor mast, as opposed to the Manned/Un-Manned Teaming (MUMT) alternative available to the E-model, which is a far more capable machine than the D-variant.
We have included accurate HUD symbology from the IHADSS, as cleared by crews, to add further detail to this highly complex design. It is a privilege to know that aircrew who qualify on this new cutting-edge type will be able to wear this patch with pride. Safe in the knowledge that they fly the most advanced helicopter ever operated by the British Army.
